Alison Bechdel, who writes the syndicated comic strip “Dykes to Watch Out For,” chronicles her coming of age (and, eventually, out) in graphic novel form. The Fun Home of the title is her family’s funeral home. This was only the second graphic novel I have read—it’s not my favorite genre—but it was so readable, such a page turner, and so laugh-out-loud funny, that I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest it to a reader who isn’t sure whether or not they would enjoy a graphic novel. --Barb P.
