The Princess of Burundi

By Kjell Eriksson; translated from the Swedish by Ebba Segerberg. Winner of the Swedish Crime Academy Award for Best Crime Novel, The Princess of Burundi is set in Uppsala, Sweden, where the snow is piled high and the atmosphere is thick and eerie. A minor thug has been murdered and Detective Ann Lindell is on the case. I enjoyed reading about a police department where an unmarried pregnant detective raised no eyebrows whatsoever in any social context. --Barb P.
