Broken Glass Park

Alina Bronsky, a Russian immigrant to Germany, wrote this, her first novel, under a pseudonym. Set in Frankfurt, Germany, this coming-of-age story features our heroine, Sascha, a remarkably self-possessed teenager from Russia, whose boundary issues sometimes lead to risky behavior, including rollerblading with a budding Nazi and accepting rides and invitations to spend the night from strangers. She seems to have a thing for males named Volker. In spite of her venturesome activities, Sascha has a soft spot for her family; she has a tender relationship with her younger siblings. Written in the first person, this book is 221 pages of text; with no chapter breaks, it is hard to put down.--Barb P.
