A Grue of Ice
Adventure novelist Geoffrey Jenkins (1920-2001) was called South Africa's answer to Ian Fleming. This 1962 gem from Highland Park Branch Library's older fiction collection certainly has comparable pacing, larger-than-life villains, outlandish schemes, and exotic locations. In A Grue of Ice a British ex-navy captain turned oceanographer is ensnared in a megalomaniac's mysterious quest in the storm-tossed South Atlantic Ocean. Racing from Tristan da Cunha to Bouvet Island to the Antarctic pack ice, it's an old-fashioned adventure yarn that still thrills. -- János.
